Intel Core 13 Gen, the new gaming processor is finally a reality

The long-awaited new generation of processors has arrived, Intel Core 13 Gen is now a reality. 13th-Gen-Intel-Core

It took some time, but the Raptor Lakes have finally been announced and after a long gestation period they are now available for purchase.

The initial product line consists of six unlocked multiplier processors for desktop systems.

Leading this new product line, the top of the range Intel Core i9-13900K, a processor that reaches up to 24 cores, 32 threads and a clock frequency that reaches an incredible value of 5.8 Ghz.

Intel Core 13 Gen, the manufacturing process

Let's find out everything about the new super processors and the manufacturing process that distinguishes them.

The Intel Core 13 Gen are made on the production process already seen for Intel 7, characterized by the use of Enhanced SuperFin technology at 10 nm. This manufacturing technology allows us to create chips that promise up to 15% more single-thread performance and up to 41% more multi-threading performance compared to the previous generation.

In this new generation of processors, Intel proposes the hybrid architecture of the x86 type, already known in jargon as big.little.

In practice, this acronym indicates a clever mix between high-performance cores (also called P-cores) for the most demanding tasks and low-energy consumption cores (E-cores) for less demanding and "lighter" tasks.

Precisely the latter are one of the most interesting innovations in the architecture of this new series of processors. The E-cores have in fact increased, at least on the highest performing processors , the i5, i7 and i9. An increase which consequently significantly improves multi-threading performance.

In addition to this important news, Intel also reports improvements in AI performance thanks also to the GNA (Gaussian & Neural Accelerator) chip in version 3.0; on the GPU side, however, the same range already seen last year remains unchanged, based on the proprietary X architecture.

Intel Core 13 Gen Intel Core 13 Gen, new technologies implemented

Not only an evolution of what was already appreciated just over a year ago, but also great innovations underlying these processors. For example in chips.

Raptor Lake chips support PCIe 5.0 technology with up to 16 lanes integrated directly from the processor , while expanding compatibility with DDR5 RAM (DDR5-5200 and -5600 chips now also work) while maintaining compatibility with the previous DDR4 standard . The level 3 and level 2 cache then increase in size, with the latter reaching double the previous important values.

In addition to an evolution in the chip, Raptor Lake Intel introduces a new generation of chipset for motherboards, the 700 Series .

Also in this case there are many innovations that distinguish this new series, which compared to the previous one, the 600 Series, adds:

  • 8 more PCIe 4.0 lanes, for a total of 28 total lanes including PCIe 3.0 ones
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 ports (setting new speed records
  • DMI 4.0 ensures faster communication between chipset and CPU
  • Another feature that distinguishes Rocket Lake processors compared to previous series is its compatibility and the freedom left to the buyers of the same. Rocket Lake processors are in fact also compatible with the "old" Intel Series 600 cards, thus allowing you, if necessary, to opt for a gradual upgrade of your machine. In the same way, the opposite combination is also possible, i.e. that of the new chipsets, Series 700, with twelfth generation processors.

Intel core 13 Gen, the range

The new product series currently includes six processors and one chipset, the new top of the range, the Z790.

The total of six processors is obtained by duplicating three base processors , a Core i5, a Core i7 and a Core i9.

They are then offered in two different variants:

  • K variant (multiplier unlocked for overclocking)
  • KF variant (multiplier unlocked and no integrated GPU).
  • Six processors which are only the beginning, given that an expansion process of the product line is planned, through the launch of various models for a total of 22 chips.

  • Intel Core 13 Gen What does the Intel Core 13 Gen promise?

The set of cores (Performance and Efficient) and the possibility of working in single-thread and multi-thread allows the following advantages:

Gaming experience taken to new levels

The Intel Core 13 Gen promises its players the best gaming experience in the world. This processor , available with up to 24 cores and 32 threads in the flagship version of the i9-13900K offers probably the best gaming, streaming and recording experience available on the market.

    Perfect for content creators

With the addition of additional E-cores and improved multi-threaded performance, the new processors can handle multiple compute-intensive workloads. The objective is therefore to always be ready to receive and process the user's creative input.

    Featuring an unrivaled overclocking experience

The 13th generation Intel Core processor offers an unmatched overclocking experience for any type of user. From expert to beginner, any user can benefit from higher overclocking speeds in every area, on Performance, Energetic processors and DDR5 RAM memories.

The overclocking function has also been updated and made easier. In fact, all you need to do is press a button to activate this booster and obtain all the necessary computing power.

    Multi-device interaction

The new series of processors was then presented together with Unison, a new software application that allows you to create a new multi-device experience that allows you to have an open ecosystem. In practice, this new feature allows Windows PCs to communicate with Android and iOS smartphones, in order to bring many of the phone's features to the PC screen, from messaging ones to the possibility of transferring files and multimedia content.

    Compatibility, release date and prices

Initially, this new generation of processors will only be compatible with Intel EVO certified laptops based on twelfth generation processors (Alder Lake series). By the end of this year the processor will then appear on a select series of Acer, HP and Lenovo laptops.

The new series of processors has already been released on the American market and the arrival on the Italian and European markets is also imminent.
