The HP Proliant server line is in its eighth generation. These servers have become fixtures in SMB data centers. The DL380p is an exceptional machine. Not only can you fully configure it in terms of specifications for maximum performance, but it also offers a lot of management and control options.

With its latest ProLiant Gen8 servers, HP has really pushed the boat out for remote management as they were designed to virtually manage themselves. In addition to freeing up administrators' time, they offer improved I/O, flexible configuration options and, with Intel's new Xeon E5-2609 in the driving seat, a lot more processing power. This 2U rack server introduces the new iLO4 integrated controller that comes standard with HP Agentless Management, Active Health System (AHS), and Embedded Remote Support features. These provide improved health monitoring plus power and thermal controls, and offer an app for remote smartphone management. The iLO4 web interface sees a small redesign with more information on the main components, including storage and RAID.

The DL380p's built-in P420i Smart Array RAID controller connects to the motherboard's pair of SAS 2 ports and offers a good choice of cache memory. We had the full 2GB FBWC (flash supported write cache) module which comes with a fast charging capacitor. Thanks to its 8 2.5" bays you will have a huge choice of RAID types and redundancy for your sensitive data.

HP's tool-free design is even easier to use as the two PCI risers can be removed with a simple flick of the wrist. The new Smart Socket guides also reduce the chances of damage to CPU pins during upgrades or maintenance. The components are now color coded, so those with red tabs are hot-swappable while those with blue tabs do not need to be removed until the server is shut down.
